“Once again Andi has presented me with some incredible music. I really enjoyed polishing her music until the very end. She’s kind, understanding and an excellent person. I recommend her work wholeheartedly!”

“I can honestly say that Andi is not only an amazing person, but also her ideas are original, innovative and very moving! Her band West of Connacht is an incredible fusion of genres that touch your heart and make you want to listen to much more of their music. Mixing her track was a pleasure and an honor.” (July, 2019)

“a fascinating approach to making the familiar seem new… lovely fiddle playing over a seductive and quite forward looking arrangement that contains throwback elements recalling The Bothy Band as well as the harder world music sounds of the 1980s and 1990s. This may come as no surprise, as the Leahy sisters have long pushed trad’s boundaries – if you’ve not heard the tracks they made as members of the band Ground Plan (with Eileen Ivers and Caesar Pacifici), they’re worth hearing, see tinyurl.com/groundplanband.” (July, 2019)

Seán Laffey interviews “two New Yorkers, sisters Andi and Fionnghuala Leahy. They play fiddle, flute and clavinet in the band West of Connacht with guitarist Peter Gallagher, from Ireland… and they are taking trad in some new directions!” (May, 2019) (See full article here.)

Larry Kirwan of Black 47 discusses Ground Plan back when they used to perform in the 1980s on Celtic Crush Radio, Sirius XM. (September 23rd, 2018)

GROUND PLAN was founded in NYC by sisters Andi Leahy (fiddle, bodhran, vocals) and Fionnghuala Leahy (flute, clavinet, vocals) in 1983, ushering in the era of “ethnotech” music. They are known for fusing traditional Irish music with ethnic and pop sounds. The other original members were Caesar Pacifici (guitar) and Eileen Ivers (fiddle, mandolin). One of their most popular pieces The Destitution became known as The Ground Plan among traditional Irish musicians. It was recorded by William Coulter and Kevin Burke.

The arrangement and counter-melodies of The Destitution were also re-recorded later by Eileen Ivers. Their style of music, “Urban Ethnotech”, was coined by the band’s managers Phelim Lunny and Andi Leahy, the former of whom is the brother of famous Irish musician Donal Lunny. These uploaded recordings are some of Ground Plan’s Lost Tapes that were able to be salvaged and restored. They are dedicated to the Leahy sons.
